How to spend 3 days on Hamilton Island (with Velocity Points)

I’ve heard nothing but praise for the picturesque Hamilton Island off the coast of Northern Queensland. A stone's throw away from one of the world's best beaches and with the breathtaking Great Barrier Reef at its doorstep, Hamilton Island offers a level of laid-back island luxury that effortlessly rivals any overseas tropical destination.
And at just over two hours from Sydney by plane, it ticks all the boxes for a blissful long weekend birthday celebration with my partner Kris. Less time aviating, more time celebrating.
Using points means that the luxury begins before we even touchdown on the island. From Sydney, we fly return to Hamilton Island in Virgin Australia Business Class for just 47,000 Velocity Points + $102 per person. That's right - this balmy domestic island escape (in the middle of Aussie winter, mind you) cost us less than the price of a fancy dinner!

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed :) - Toby
Fantastic video! I recently binged every single episode of your podcast, any plans for more episodes in the future?
Absolutely amazing and can’t wait to be in there next week
Superb clarification
It's one hour and twenty minutes. They give you a nice meal and snatch it back 20 minutes later
Not worth it for such a tiny amount of time.
I love how happy this guy is!! great positivity. subscribed
Qantas sucks regardless😂😂😂
❤
Now all the south Africans who live in oz can visit home.
Total propaganda! I bet there was very little satisfaction among the 350 passengers & crew on QF11 last Thursday that was 6 hours late leaving Sydney for LAX! It’s a flight that departs late everyday like clockwork because Qantas operates an international schedule that cannot be maintained because of historical decisions not to order new planes (for senior executive bonus related reasons), very little maintenance capability in Australia, and no backup aircraft when there are unserviceable aircraft. The cabin crew regularly report that QF11 has empty seats because of the flights poor on time departure records plays total havoc with passenger onward connections from LAX, and Qantas don’t care because the A380 sits on the ground at LAX for most of the day before returning to SYD.
I suppose a person’s opinion depends upon their experiences. After trying various other carriers, I made the decision to dedicate myself to Qantas flights about 3 years ago. I average about 4 return trips to Europe each year. (Self funded). After an initial bureaucratic cluster f$ck, I must say Qantas have exceeded my expectations. Highly regular upgrades with points; Free upgrades; Every flight cancellation or delay has been dealt with exceptionally quickly and to my satisfaction; etc etc.
I’ve flown QF 11 twice this year, both flights in the air within 15mins of scheduled departure, 2 flights also on QF 1 same thing. In total over the last 12 months I’ve had in excess of 30 domestic and international flights and the most severe delay was QF104 from Honolulu which saw a delay of 2 hours due to a passenger medical emergency. I can’t honestly say out the 30 + flights (10+ long and ultra long haul) I have not had a delay more than 30mins.
What the actual fuck is that thing talking
"Its all about moving the aircraft", with or without your luggage.
BOEING knew of the problem "Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System" Originally taken from a military tank operating system. To stop the plane from falling, this system takes over and attempts to stablise the plane by lowering the nose, keeping it horizontal with the ground. This system was tweeked by the company, that now it makes the plane plummet to the ground." Due to company lowering production costs, " maximising proffits" avoiding test flights to perfect the aircraft, this model has been the worst aircraft in history. And its now in commercial operation.
How Qantas REALLY responds when things go wrong. "Its not our fault, its the weather, its the government, its the passengers, its the pilots, its the market, its Boeing, its the ground crew, its Airbus, its the flight attendants, its the airports. Its everybody else's fault, but not ours."🙄
interesting. yep yep yep yep yep yep yep yep yep yep yep yep yep yep yep
Right. Yep. Yeah.
Grrr this shit me off so much, on top of the QF propaganda which I don't think is fooling anyone. You'd never see legit journalists going "yeah, yep, for sure, yep" when they're interviewing someone. They shut up and let them talk, unless they're interviewing someone controversial then they just step on them 😂
Vomit
@pointhacks great insight of the operations at qantas headquarters in mascot, I love qantas and flying them national carrier 🦘
Thanks for sharing! I'm looking into using the lounge in a couple of days. My first time. :)
Have requested an upgrade to First from Singapore to London. Hopefully we’ll secure it. Have been First on a number of occasions. I love Qantas the best. 👏🇦🇺
Good Luck Rex I hope u are even more successful
The crew on SAA have always been great. Glad to see the airline it turning itself around.
I flew the q suite from brisbane to doha last year and it was the best experience of my life. the staff were so kind and the flight attendant kept checking on me and asked if I wanted anything. he also waited for a while before I chose what I wanted to eat. and he randomly gave me a hot chocolate and some chocolate during the flight. definetly 5/5 airline
Same, flew it with my partner. Flown many other business classes and nothing comes close to matching that experience:
mmm Bled cake is the best!
Nah one time I was flying from Adelaide to Perth and the business class was just bigger seats😭💀
Nah, better save the points for something else
This guy said “it self” 50 times or more !! Chronic it self
Empty wide body planes from second-tier cities are a direct result of the federal government’s decision to keep competition away from Qantas. Meanwhile, Aussies are paying record prices for international flights. Also: you slept all the way from Australia to Qatar? Incredible!
Did they fix the problem with the controls taking over?
Yes, it is a safe plane.
I did the same business class from Adelaide to also get the extra hours for free.On way back did direct to Adelaide in economy class.
Flights to and from Australia are super expensive unless you are flying to Asia or Hawaii.
So a bathroom on board, but where was the bath
same flogs own a car that needs premium fuel.
Your maths doesn’t work for gold or silver members to achieve life status. They would need to do way more then what you have indicated
It’s a MAX? No, thank you.
Strange they put the old seats on the Perth flights and the new seats on the short flight to CPT
Walls are thin ,you can hear everything from other rooms…..earplugs are a must
oh well that change with partner awards availability means I won't be flying them anytime soon...luckily VA have better partners out there these days
Awesome vid man! Etihad is just awesome, you gotta love the new Zayed terminal. 😎😊
Lovely to see Etihad soar at this new terminal. Emirates feels a bit too crowded and tacky in comparison.
isn't it like a 30 minute flight?
Amei todas as bolsas lindas e de muito bom gosto.Parabens *#yutulu* 😘😘😘
Nothing is worth it if you're going to fly with an airline as woke as Qantas. I'll never fly with them after their part in driving Israel Folau out of Rugby.
Nooooooooooooo!
Good video but i love Emirates
Nah SQ is so much better
In my opinion, I think both are almost similar in ranking
What's ridiculous is the rules being thwarted so easily.
But how much does it cost?
